Gateway to Independence Transportation Company (G.I.T.Co.) is a non-profit corporation that was created in 2004 with the mission of, “fostering quality affordable transportation for persons with disabilities, the elderly, and income-eligible individuals,” in the City of St. Louis. Transportation needs are met through G.I.T.Co.’s provision of leased vehicles, many of which are equipped with wheelchair ramps or lifts, to local transportation companies as well as non-profit organizations. These agencies provide both door-to-door and/or curb-to-curb transportation to individuals who qualify for sheltered workshops, day programs, supported employment, and other services. As some individuals also require assistance in getting to medical, employment, life skills, court, educational, and recreational appointments, the vehicles are also utilized for said purposes.

Vehicles are obtained through grants that are administered and funded by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT); the St. Louis Office for Developmental Disability Resources (DD Resources) provides the matching funds for vehicles.
